We are seeking a Data Science Analyst to design and conduct analysis of power system data through the application of analytical tools and solutions to identify potential vulnerabilities and threats to reliable operation of the Bulk Power System in the Western United States. The responsibilities of this position will include designing analyses to fit specific issues, objectives and types of data, and then working with the analytical team to carry out the work and share information with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be able to apply analytical methods from across industries to power industry analysis. Candidates must be enthusiastic, self motivated performers who will apply creative and critical thinking to solve problems. Major Duties: â?¢ Design analyses appropriate to given issues, objectives and data types, and that leverage methods used across industries â?¢ Apply advanced analytical tools, e.g., algorithms or predictive models, to ascertain potential vulnerabilities or threats to the reliability of the Bulk Electric System â?¢ Create and implement projects that explore the intersection of risk and reliability in the Western Interconnection, evaluate the potential impacts of identified risks, and explore opportunities for improvement â?¢ Evaluate information on historical electric system performance to identify trends and potential risksx Translate data about electric industry performance into actionable information for decision makers through written documents, presentations, webinars, etc. â?¢ Collaborate with colleagues across the organization on risk identification, evaluation and monitoring â?¢ Identify, assist in the collection of, and track data necessary to perform robust analyses â?¢ Interact with electric industry subject matter experts to evaluate issues related to electric system performance and reliability Minimum Qualifications: â?¢ Bachelors degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or similar data analysis related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience resulting in demonstrated ability to perform major duties â?¢ Five years demonstrated experience with data warehousing, ETL, data processing, database programming and data analytics /risk analysis â?¢ Extensive background in data mining and statistical analysis â?¢ Excellent pattern recognition and predictive modeling skills â?¢ Excellent organizational skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously â?¢ Ability to work independently with minimal direction and high level of comfort working on new and/or open ended assignments â?¢ Good presentation, written and verbal communication skills with strong emphasis on the ability to convey analytical information to diverse audiences â?¢ Inquisitive, critical thinking approach to problems and ability to identify trends, recognize blind spots, determine needs and make recommendations â?¢ Fluency in computer based analysis tools Preferred Qualifications: â?¢ Above minimum qualifications and the following: â?¢ Masters degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or similar data analysis related field â?¢ Experience with Python, R, or other programming languages â?¢ Demonstrated skill in working with SQL, DAX, Excel and Power BI or similar tools Familiarity with regulated industry dynamics, though not specific to power industry â?¢ Knowledge of electric or gas industry business, regulation, or mission critical activities â?¢ Knowledge of operational risk management and operational process mapping Python SQL Electric ETL DAX Excel algorithms ETL Data Processing, Database Programming Data Analytics Risk Analysis R Power BI Science Analyst
