General DB expertise/ Knowledge and Hands on Required for the following:


 


1.1.   DCA Server and Greenplum Database Monitoring


Greenplum Resident engineer will proactively monitor all critical services necessary to keep the Greenplum Database environments available for users.  This is accomplished through the use of our custom script toolkit tailored to the specific Customer’s needs.  Customer will have access to the monitoring tool reports via email notifications. Proactive Database Monitoring includes:



  • SOP for all monitored events

  • Greenplum Database background processes

  • Greenplum Network Services

  • Systems log errors

  • System resources (CPU, Memory, Swap)

  • Space allocation and management


 


1.2.   Greenplum Systems and Database Maintenance


Greenplum Resident engineer will perform all tasks necessary to keep the DCA services including the Greenplum database up and running for end users/application access and use.  This effort includes performing updates and changes to the database as per an agreed upon change control process.  SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) will be created and followed for all routine tasks.  Database maintenance includes:



  • SOP for startup/shutdown of all databases and DCA Services

  • SOP for change management of DCA or database configuration

  • Server reboots

  • Sendmail setup and administration

  • Startup/shutdown of all databases and DCA services

  • Management of all database initialization, DCA systems administration and configuration parameters


 


1.3.   Patching


Greenplum Resident engineer will apply upon our recommendation and customer request, selected and or required Greenplum DCA patches along with their associated prerequisite patches.  This includes in-family point release upgrade patches in addition to “one-off” patches.  Upon request of the Customer, or quarterly if requested, a listing of any missing critical patch updates along with a report showing their current patchset version compared to the latest available patchset.   Greenplum DCA patching includes:



  • SOP for patching protocol

  • Limited point release fixes and patches includes O/S

  • Limited prerequisite patches includes O/S

  • Customer driven maintenance decisions

  • Notification of quarterly critical patch updates

  • Notification of daily critical patch updates such as those required for security


 


1.4.   System Refreshes


Greenplum Resident engineer will refresh from clone Greenplum Database instances upon Customer request. Greenplum best-practice methodologies will be used for all clones.  Cloning service includes:



  • Limited Greenplum Database clones

  • Customer specific cloning procedures

  • Greenplum Database technology software setups


 


1.5.   Space Management


Greenplum Resident engineer will manage utilization of storage resources within the database and at the filesystem level for all managed products.  Responsibilities include:



  • Determining and implementing optimal logical and physical layout model

  • Determining optimal contiguous space

  • Monitoring freespace and free contiguous space/largest extent

  • Creation and Maintenance of Filesystems including unmounting and mounting operations


 


1.6.   Database Backup Management


Greenplum Resident engineer will work with Customer to define and implement a database backup strategy that meets the business requirements for recovery.  The effort includes testing, deployment and maintenance of database backup scripts.  Greenplum best-practice methodologies will be used for all database backups.  Backup management includes:



  • Deploying and maintaining all database backup scripts

  • Supporting the DCA integration and configuration of supported backup appliances.

  • Monitoring database backup jobs to ensure successful completion

  • Testing database backups to ensure successful recovery with minimal data loss

  • Documenting the backup and recovery strategy and process in the Backup and Recovery SOP

  • Customer will be responsible for offsite media level backups including Data Domain and its Replication.

  • Customer will be responsible for maintenance and retention of backups that cannot be stored on the DCA server (tape backups, storing tapes off site, Data Domain admin, etc)


 


1.7.   DBA Support


Greenplum Resident engineer will work with Customer to provide up to 40 hours a week of database administration and support, inclusive to services outlined in this section.



  • Maintenance Scripts

    • EMC will deploy, schedule and monitor custom system level maintenance scripts.




 



  • Configuration

    • Setup of User, Groups and Roles

    • Assignment and building of resource queues

    • New tool connectivity, ODBC Setup




 



  • Database Tuning


Greenplum Resident engineerwill perform on going tuning assessment of the Customers production database and will provide tuning recommendations.  The tuning assessment will include all aspects of:



  • Database memory management

  • File I/O statistics

  • Process wait statistics

  • Database initialization

  • Determining ideal layout for datafiles on the filesystem with the segment servers, partitioning, and distribution keys

  • Explain plan review of problem queries.


 



  • Within the scope of this SOW the customer will be responsible for any and all project related DBA tasks including but not limited to, script development, SQL development, onboarding new databases, and schema creation.
