Job description Position Summary The Product Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all product engineering design and validation tasks as outlined in the APQP process (standard automotive design process) for one or more product areas. The candidate must be familiar and proficient with basic engineering processes and methods including drawing standards, test and validation protocols, leading design reviews and DFMEAs, engineering change and design control, BOM creation, requirements management, prototyping, supplier management, and customer interfacing. The role reports to an Engineering Manager or Director and requires very close collaboration with Sales, Manufacturing, and Sourcing as well as regional tech centers and partners. Some travel, including international, will be required Major Responsibilities • Lead the product engineering design and validation tasks on a product development from inception through to successful launch according to design control procedure. • Work collaboratively with cross-functional launch teams to ensure we provide the customer with robust designs and manufacturing processes that are efficient, meet world-class quality standards, and provide good margin. • Develop innovations that provide value to the customer and differentiate our product from the competition resulting in a competitive advantage for organization. Knowledge and Experience • BS or higher degree in an Engineering discipline; Mechanical preferred. • Experience (>2 yrs) in the automotive supply market in product/application/design engineering roles. • Capable of some advanced design principles and methods such as DOE and CAE to meet objectives. Able to identify appropriate analysis/testing to optimize designs and mitigate risk. • Some understanding of product manufacturing using a range of metal and plastic forming operations. • Demonstrated ability to design mechanical automotive products suitable for high volume manufacturing. • Experience working with automotive OEMs. • Fuel system experience. Selection Criteria • Must have a proven track record for designing engineered automotive products. • Ability to take full ownership of the product engineering role on a cross functional team and see a project through to successful launch. • Innovative but with a strong process orientation; track record of delivering on commitments in a development environment. • Ability to communicate complex engineering issues effectively to different stakeholders and lead design reviews. • Excellent team member and collaborator with other functions. • Working knowledge of statistical methods used in engineering and manufacturing process design, testing and manufacturing scale-up; 6 Sigma Black Belt a plus. • International experiences a plus.
