Responsibilities


â?¢


The VP Government Affairs & Policy leads the government advocacy effort for the US at the national and state levels on behalf of US Commercial and other functional units



â?¢

This leadership role is expected to provide influence on the external policy environment so that the value of Client pipeline, portfolio, operations and P&L is preserved and advanced



â?¢

Leads all of Client government strategy/policy development and government advocacy activities to increase the federal and state governmentâ??s awareness of Client work and position the organization as a premier voice on healthcare policy to federal and state policymakers and other external stakeholders



â?¢

Spearheads development and implementation of proactive policy strategies that align with and advance Client business goals and success, and that provide direction and prioritization for Client government and external affairs activities



â?¢

Leads development of Client position on major public policy issues being considered by government policymakers and in global and national trade associations (PhRMA, BIO, IFPMA, etc.)



â?¢

Designs and leads implementation of strategic plans to address threats and opportunities; identify healthcare trends, state and federal legislation and regulation impacting all aspects of Client



â?¢

Collaborates with Corporate Planning to provide input of key government issues and trends into Client annual Mid-Term Plan (MTP)



â?¢

Builds, develops, leads and motivates a team of high caliber senior government strategy/policy and advocacy professionals in Washington DC, Northbrook, and across the country (field-based) responsible for policy development and government advocacy



â?¢

Develops and implements strategy to serve as â??Center of Excellenceâ? within Client Americas and globally to educate key internal stakeholders on key government policy strategy and trends



â?¢

Identifies, develops and spearheads cross-functional implementation of new and/or improved strategic initiatives and processes that maximize Client ability to comprehend and respond to relevant policy trends in the dynamic external environment



â?¢

Oversees the development and implementation of Client employee engagement, grassroots activation and PAC programs



â?¢

Manages and controls department budget to ensure achievement of financial targets and alignment with broader corporate priorities



â?¢

Lead a team of 17 senior professionals with specific expertise in policy development and federal and states lobbying and advocacy development



â?¢

Responsible for the development and execution of Client government strategy and government advocacy across all of its current and future therapeutic area franchises



â?¢

Accountable for ensuring effective government affairs strategies at all levels of the U.S. government (federal, state (50)) and for ensuring alignment with external affairs activities across the US and globally as appropriate



â?¢

Accountable for ensuring that government strategy/policy and external affairs expertise is available to numerous regional and global functions



â?¢

This position reports to the US Commercial President and manages a team of senior government strategy/policy and advocacy professionals
