Role : Principal Research Scientist
Location: Princeton, NJ

  • Primary FunctionThe principal research scientist is responsible for supervising the full spectrum of activities related to the development of bio analytical methods including presentation of original or significant research findings to external peer audiences.Major ResponsibilitiesSupervise the development and optimization of bio analytical methods.
  • Find original solutions to analyzing difficult analytes.
  • Process, analyze and interpret bio analytical data and train and instruct staff on appropriate analytical techniques.
  • Supervise and/or drive improvements in laboratory activity processes, analytical techniques and platforms.
  • Review scientific literature in order to guide the development of bio analytical methods and markets.
  • Work with the management to resource and resolve method development issues within their groups.
  • Document and/or review documentation of activities related to the development and validation of bio analytical methods.
  • Participate in the advanced scientific training.
  • Lead competitive intelligence by developing.and testing.new , analytical instruments and conducting pilot case studies to generate data that can be used for sales and marketing.
  • Represent the company scientifically through client engagement including new business prospecting, project specification negotiation and issue resolution.
  • Work closely with BD and management to define scope and develop pricing for new clients, new markets and/or projects.
  • Present research results and other suitable material to clients, management and employees. Attend and present research result at professional conferences and meetings.
  • Publish original research in peer reviewed journals.

Supervisory & Management Responsibilities:
Supervise, coach, and mentor scientific staffOversee development of direct reports by setting goals, conducting performance reviews, evaluating and monitoring training needs, creating development plans, mentoring, and coachingSet priorities and schedule activities of departmental resources, implement company objectives, and create alternative solutions to address business and operational challenges.

Education Required:
  • Advanced Degree in Science.In lieu of degree, 8 years of relevant experience may be considered.
  • Relative alternate certification may be considered acceptable.
  • Minimum Training & Experience RequiredSeven to 15 years of relevant work experience would be considered an asset.Demonstrated strong leadership, line management, tactical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Must demonstrate good computer skills especially in the utilization of Microsoft Word and Excel and analytical software.
  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills, both written and spoken, with an ability to inform, influence, convince, and persuade.
  • Experience in regulatory context will be considered an assetExperience within a client-service environment, either in a contract laboratory or within a core group at a pharmaceutical company.
  • Experience managing scientific staff.Demonstrate scientific problem solving skills.
