Senior Database Architect Client: State of OH OH BWC Location: Columbus, OH Duration: 3 Months (Possible Extension) The Senior Database Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing infrastructure to provide highly-complex, and scalable databases. These are replacement positions. Possible extension subject to Budget and Administrative approval. BWC is implementing a new Claims, Policy and Billing system. This new implementation is shifting our Data warehouse and Reporting infrastructure from DB2/Hyperion to Oracle/Cognos. The nature of our data is also changing, as data elements are changing purpose and semantics as part of the transition. BWCs new system will have a transaction data store (TDS), operational data store (ODS) and a newly designed Oracle Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). With the move to an EDW, BWC will also be shifting from a relational based data warehouse towards dimensional/star-schema models. This position will be required to aid BWC in this shift. Additionally, this position will be responsible for taking requirements and designing, creating, tuning and supporting Oracle Data Warehouse databases. Experience working as a data modeler in business intelligence, analytics and Enterprise Data Warehousing environments Experience with design, development and support of normalized data structures (commonly referred to as Inmon) Experience developing Data Warehouse databases using Oracle RDBMS platform and tools Experience with Kimball (Dimensional Modeling) and Inmon methodologies Experience with the AllFusion Erwin modeling tool (7.3, 8 and 9.0.0), including Model Mart Repository advanced features (e.g. check in/out, complete compare, naming standards and reverse engineering) Experience analyzing data profiling, data mining, data cleansing, data content, scrubbing data, and translating data via rules from one database to another Experience with Data Warehouse tools and techniques (ETL tools, STAR schemas, etc.) Experience with STAR Schema structures, theories, principles, and best practices, Data Governance, Data Quality Management, Metadata Management, and Conceptual and Logical Data Design. Strong Data Modeling skills to include data quality, source systems analysis (DB2, Oracle, VSAM , etc) business rules validation, source to target mapping design, prepare sample data example and data validation with ETL team (SCD 1, SCD 2 types tables and Fact tables) Software development experience with Oracle RDBMS 11g Software development experience with IBM DB2 SQL Skill in the use of organizational tools & methods (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Clarity) Experience performing peer reviews Ability to effectively communicate with business and IT staff Ability to effectively communicate with business and IT staff Ability to quickly adapt to changes, enhancements, and new technologies Ability to establish and maintain positive collaborative relationships with team members High energy levels and tolerance for tight deadlines and time pressures Required: - 10 years of experience working as a data modeler in business intelligence, analytics and Enterprise Data Warehousing environments - 10 years of experience with design, development and support of normalized data structures (commonly referred to as Inmon) - 7 years of experience developing Data Warehouse databases using Oracle RDBMS platform and tools - 5 years of experience with Kimball (Dimensional Modeling) and Inmon methodologies - 5 years of experience with the AllFusion Erwin modeling tool (7.3, 8 and 9.0.0), including Model Mart Repository advanced features (e.g. check in/out, complete c - 5 years of experience analyzing data profiling, data mining, data cleansing, data content, scrubbing data, and translating data via rules from one database to an - 5 years of experience with Data Warehouse tools and techniques (ETL tools, STAR schemas, etc.) - 5 years of experience with STAR Schema structures, theories, principles, and best practices, Data Governance, Data Quality Management, Metadata Management, and C - 5 years of strong Data Modeling skills to include data quality, source systems analysis (DB2, Oracle, VSAM , etc) business rules validation, source to target map Desired: - 3 years of software development experience with Oracle RDBMS 11g - 1 year of software development experience with IBM DB2 SQL - 3 years of skills in the use of organizational tools & methods (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Clarity) - 1 year of experience performing peer reviews - 4 years of ability to effectively communicate with business and IT staff - 1 year of ability to quickly adapt to changes, enhancements, and new technologies - 2 years of ability to establish and maintain positive collaborative relationships with team members - 2 years of high energy levels and tolerance for tight deadlines and time pressures
