IT Sr. Project Manager

Location: Syracuse, NY

Responsibilities

The IT Senior Project Manager must have strong practical experience in project management for Information Technology projects, gained through experience managing large and complex projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage multiple enterprise-level IT projects simultaneously through the entire system development lifecycle
  • Execute projects from initiation, planning, development, testing to closing
  • Ensure all projects milestones are completed on-time, within scope, and within budget, and to the required quality standard
  • Assist in the definition and documentation of project scope and S.M.A.R.T objectives, involving relevant stakeholders
  • Work cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes
  • Develop and own full scale project plans to monitor an track progress o Define roles and responsibilities
  • Resolve complex, interdependent activities into tasks and sub-tasks that are documented, monitored and controlled oPlan and schedule timelines and milestones
  • Ensure resources availability and allocation (escalate where needed)
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately
  • Schedule, coordinate, and manage testing and deployment phasesoSolidify budget details
  • Identify issues, risks, and mitigation strategiesâ?¢Organize and lead project status and working meetings
  • Effectively convey project goals, objectives, and expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely, clear, and compelling fashionoDeliver progress updates regularly
  • Ensure open communication amongst project teamoCommunicate with senior leadership across all areas of the organization
  • Facilitate daily scrums, user stories, sprint planning and sprint reviews
  • Implement an effective system of project governance
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans
  • Present reports defining plans, problems, and resolutions to appropriate levels of management
  • Listen effectively and clarify information as needed
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Conduct post-project review to discuss and document successes and lessons-learned for future projects

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Ability to independently manage multiple concurrent multifaceted and complex technology projects that are large in size, scope, budget, and/or impact, including all aspects of process development and execution
  • Solid understanding of full system development life cycle models
  • Expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional waterfall project management principles and practicesâ?¢Mastery of various software programs and tools including MS Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Visio / SharePoint
  • Demonstrated success using project management software, such as MS Project, Planview, SmartSheet, or equivalent
  • Superior listening, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to read communication styles of team members who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines
  • Must be experienced communicating with all levels including Executive leadership
  • Must be able to adapt approach to the context and constraints of each project, knowing that no \"one size\" can fit all the variety of projects
  • Organized with a keen attention to detail
  • Capable of working both independently and in a team-oriented collaborative environments
  • Possess talent for handling shifting priorities / demands / timelines and effectively executing tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • It is crucial that candidate be able to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
  • Must be willing and able to reflect the organizational culture and strategy

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree (required) or Master degree (preferred) in the field of Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, Management or related discipline with a technical focus.
  • 10+ years direct Project Management (PM) work experience in Information Technology, with demonstrated success
  • PMI certification as a PMP or professional certification by an accredited institute of higher learning
