Netezza DBA Duration: 6+ months Location: Lexington, MA Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers. Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication. Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Responsible for administration, maintenance and availability of Netezza and Oracle databases. Ensure backup and recoverability of all databases. Troubleshoot performance issues, identify bottlenecks, and recommend solutions at the server level, database level Define and configure appropriate level of monitoring and alerting. Work with database vendor as needed, to drive solutions to various bugs, performance issues, outages Work collaboratively with architects to identify, troubleshoot, review and resolve performance issues Manage security by configuring users, groups and permissions Ensure data security. Define and implement database access control policies and procedures, complying with SOX and HIPAA requirements. Works with Data Architect on long term strategy to ensure integrated database systems. Advise on physical data model and implement changes. Responsible for capacity planning, working closely with Infrastructure group to allocate appropriate database resources on servers. Contribute to the ongoing development of technology and production processes company-wide. Keep abreast of new design tools, hardware, software, and technology and make recommendations for future deployment. Provide technical leadership. Mentor junior DBAs on the team on database technical details. Provide technical assistance to developers. Create and maintain quality control and auditing of databases. Develop and adhere to common database standards and procedures within a production operations unit. Maintain documentation related to database platforms, guidelines, methods and standards. Coordinate with technical project managers, developers and other team members to coordinate database requirements across projects. Triage/track outstanding issues, providing solutions to resolve defects and issues. Develop and adhere to common database standards and procedures within a production operations unit. Administer, maintain and support QA and development environments. Responsible for administration, analysis, design, and creation of new databases. Document and improve existing processes related to operations and daily work. EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS: 8+ years of experience in IT 6+ years of DBA experience including 3+ years with Netezza Strong problem solving skills in virtualized database environments Ability to be proactive and work well under pressure, multi-task Must have shell scripting experience Netezza DBA skills: Must possess a solid background in Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing Must have experience in large multi-terabyte DW environments Excellent knowledge of Netezza Architecture and system internals Experience analyzing query execution plans, optimize query performances, and tuning Netezza appliances Demonstrated ability defining administrative and operational standard practices using Netezza utilities such as Groom, Distribution, statistics, Zone Maps, etc Experience using Materialized Views , CBTs , External Table Experience with utilities such as NZSQL, NZ_MIGRATE, NZLOAD, NZBACKUP, NZRESTORE Experience with GRA and WLM configuration
