POSITION: Registered Nurse, EC
EXEMPT/NONEXEMPT: Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT: Emergency Center REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager/Manager SUPERVISES: Clinical Support Staff as appropriate
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Administers and monitors patient responses to all medications. Directs and guides patient care, teaching and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing within the realm of Hospital Policy. Maintains and delivers the highest quality customer service standards.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
• Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans. Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
• Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
• Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
• Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
• Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs and obtains three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit per year.
• Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
• Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
• Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
• Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Emergency Registered Nurse:
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Basic Life Support and ACLS Certification required and must maintain certifications.
• Successful passage of CCH’s Pharmacology exam and Successful passage of Basic Arrhythmia exam.
• Must read, write and communicate in English.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention) within 1 month of new position and must renew annually.
• TNCC, ENPC and PALS certifications preferred.
• Recent (within last 3years) Emergency Center RN experience required.
• Demonstrated skills in I.V. administration, IV starts, ventilator care, and telemetry monitoring required.
When the Hospital offers a transition or novice program, the following qualifications apply:
*Transition to Emergency Nursing:
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Basic Life Support required and must maintain certification.
• Successful passage of CCH’s Pharmacology exam.
• Successful passage of Basic Arrhythmia Program or challenge exam by the end of the Transition Program.
• Must read, write and communicate in English.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention) within 1month of new position and must renew annually.
• TNCC, ENPC and PALS certifications preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years current acute care RN experience required.
• Recent (within last 3 years) Critical Care or Emergency RN experience preferred.
• Demonstrated skills in I.V. administration and telemetry monitoring required.
• Demonstrated skills in ventilator care and IV starts required by the end of Transition Program.
• ACLS Certification required by end of transition program and must maintain certification.
*Novice to Emergency Nursing:
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN Required.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Basic Life Support Certification required and must maintain certification.
• Successful passage of CCH’s Pharmacology exam
• Successful passage of Basic Arrhythmia Program and challenge exam, demonstrated skills in IV administration, IV starts, ventilator care, and telemetry monitoring by end of novice program.
• ACLS Certification required by end of novice program and must maintain certification.
• Must read, write and communicate in English.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention) within 1 month of new position and must renew annually.
• TNCC, ENPC and PALS certifications preferred.
• Recent clinical experience (within last 2 years) as a tech, EMT or nurses’ aide in an emergency or critical care setting required.
