Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior DBT & Databricks Administrator to support and manage our DBT and Databricks environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience configuring DBT Cloud, creating and managing DBT projects, developing DBT models, and working with the Databricks Semantic Layer.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer and configure DBT Cloud environments, projects, connections, users, jobs, environments, and deployment configurations.
Create, configure, and manage multiple DBT projects within the enterprise environment.
Develop and maintain DBT models, sources, seeds, snapshots, macros, tests, and documentation.
Build and maintain data transformation pipelines using DBT with Databricks.
Develop and manage DBT models leveraging the Databricks Semantic Layer.
Configure Databricks connections, catalogs, schemas, warehouses/SQL endpoints, and related DBT integrations.
Manage DBT development, test, and production environments and ensure proper project configuration across environments.
Troubleshoot DBT Cloud jobs, model failures, connectivity issues, permissions, and deployment problems.
Monitor scheduled DBT jobs and investigate failed or delayed executions.
Implement DBT testing, data quality checks, documentation, and lineage.
Work closely with data engineers, analytics engineers, and business teams to understand existing models and transformation requirements.
Review existing DBT projects and models and make enhancements based on business and technical requirements.
Support production deployments and ensure reliable execution of DBT workflows.
Maintain platform standards, naming conventions, project structures, and best practices across DBT and Databricks.
Provide knowledge transfer and documentation for the existing DBT/Databricks environment.
Required Skills:
Experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data platform administration.
Strong hands-on experience with DBT Cloud administration and configuration.
Strong experience creating and managing DBT projects.
Extensive experience developing DBT models using Databricks.
Strong understanding of Databricks Semantic Layer and its implementation with DBT.
Strong SQL development and optimization skills.
Experience with DBT models, macros, tests, snapshots, sources, seeds, and documentation.
Strong understanding of DBT environments, jobs, deployments, schedules, and configurations.
Hands-on experience with Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, catalogs, schemas, and permissions.
Experience troubleshooting DBT Cloud and Databricks integration issues.
Ability to quickly take ownership of an existing DBT/Databricks environment.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a hands-on DBT and Databricks administrator/engineer, not just a DBT developer. They should be comfortable taking over an existing environment, configuring DBT Cloud, creating projects, developing and troubleshooting models, and working extensively with the Databricks Semantic Layer.
