Must be able to work onsite up to 3 days/week
Active PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is mandatory
Must have documented Risk Management experience
Must have served as PM of Record and completed either:
A Commonwealth Category 1 or Category 2 project valued at $5M+, OR
A non-Commonwealth project valued at $10M+
Preferred: Active PMP + Commonwealth PM Certification + Commonwealth Risk Management experience + completed Commonwealth Category 1/2 project valued at $5M+.
Position Overview
VDOT is seeking a Senior IT Project Manager to join the Project & Product Delivery portfolio in Mechanicsville, VA.
The selected candidate will lead and manage complex projects using Agile, SAFe, Waterfall, and Kanban methodologies while working closely with senior leadership, business teams, cross-functional teams, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Drive project delivery across the complete project lifecycle
Develop and manage project plans, release plans, resource allocation, risks, scope, and schedules
Coordinate Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Retrospectives, Sprint Demos, Story Refinement, and Release Planning
Track and communicate project schedule, cost, risk, and delivery
Remove impediments and create an environment where teams can succeed
Protect development teams from external interruptions and distractions
Maintain strong relationships between the development team, Product Owner, and stakeholders
Track team velocity and other project metrics
Promote continuous improvement and productivity
Support Product Owners with backlog management and prioritization
Ensure adherence to Agile, Waterfall, VDOT, and VITA principles and processes
Required Skills & Qualifications
Expert knowledge of Agile Project Management
Strong understanding of SDLC models
Hands-on experience with Scrum and Kanban
Experience managing project risks, scope, schedule, cost, and resources
Strong stakeholder and customer management skills
Experience working with Product Owners and managing product backlogs
Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills
Excellent mentoring, coaching, collaboration, and team-building skills
Ability to balance quality, scope, schedule, and cost
Experience documenting business and system processes
SAFe experience is a plus
