Position Tittle: Data Governance Catlog Steward-Business Domain Steward

Location: Johnston, IA and it is 3 days on-site.

Role Summary

Serve as the primary bridge between Data Governance and business Domain Owners. Proactively initiates and drives data product reviews with domain owners and catalog stewards to identify ownership gaps, confirm correct product owners, and ensure required governance information is completed to enable certification and business use.

• Business users understand and fulfill their responsibilities for ownership, documentation, and certification of data products in Alation.
• Priority data products have accurate business context in the catalog and are certified/maintained.
• A pragmatic steward?to?domain coverage model is proposed based on real demand and operating experience.

Core Responsibilities (Business Enablement)

• Act as the primary liaison to domain owners, process owners, and data product owners; attend relevant build/prioritization meetings.
• Leads ownership and governance gap closure by initiating reviews with domain owners and catalog stewards, escalating as needed to ensure products achieve certification and readiness for business use
• Hold office hours and provide training/onboarding so business teams can use the catalog effectively.
• Partner with the Catalog Steward to define business?friendly standards and guidance; maintain certification, deprecation, and status updates.
• Follow up with owners to ensure complete business metadata in the catalog (glossary definitions, use cases, SLAs, lineage context where relevant).
• Identify gaps in ownership/readiness; propose and help validate a scalable stewardship model.
• Partner with the Data Governance Lead on clear, consumable policies and communication to the business.

Must?Have Experience

• Strong stakeholder engagement with business teams in data, analytics, or governance settings.
• Ability to translate technical governance concepts into clear business guidance and drive accountability.
• Experience with data product documentation and/or data catalog practices (Alation helpful but not required).

Nice?to?Have

• Prior stewardship or domain ownership experience.
• Exposure to data product or data mesh operating models.
